Elegant antique alabaster bust depicting Pope Pius IX (1792–1878), made in Italy during the second half of the 19th century.
Beautifully carved in warm ivory-toned alabaster, with a softly modelled face, papal skullcap and richly decorated ecclesiastical vestments featuring floral motifs and tasselled cords.
The sculpture retains its original circular pedestal and original attachment.
Very good overall antique condition, with minor age-related surface marks. No restoration observed. Unsigned.
An attractive historical sculpture, ideal for a refined interior, antique collection or cabinet of curiosities.
