Product description
Antique jug in glazed ceramic, from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It carries the date 1922 painted on it.
Painted ceramic jugs were used in rural homes to serve water, wine and other drinks.
Glazed in white, it has a wide-mouthed neck with a pouring lip, a ribbon handle and a band of blue, orange and green hand-painted flowers around the belly. The name JÁNOS and the date 1922 are painted in black on the neck.
The white glaze shines brightly and shows small irregularities of modelling on the rim, a trace of its hand making.
On a wooden table or a sideboard, it works as a table jug or as a vase for branches and wild flowers.
