Antique Oak Glastonbury Chair – English Design from the Early 19th Century
Authentic oak Glastonbury chair from Norfolk, dating from the early 19th century, a beautiful example of historical craftsmanship and classic design. The masterful woodcarving in the back panel makes this antique chair a unique showpiece with a rich history. Although the chair appears foldable, it has remained in one piece for many years, and disassembly is currently not recommended.
The Glastonbury chair originates from 1504 and is inspired by Roman designs, originally manufactured for Glastonbury Abbey. After a period of decline, the design experienced a revival in the late Georgian and early Victorian periods. This specific example, from circa 1800–1840, embodies the elegance, durability, and tradition of its time. A unique antique piece of furniture that adds character and historical charm to classic, country, or vintage interiors and forms a striking focal point for any living space. Dimensions:
