Product description
Bronze Buddha head, attributed to the Himalayan region and probably associated with the Nepalese sculptural tradition.
Despite its compact dimensions, the head is notably heavy, reflecting its dense bronze alloy and thick casting walls. It was hollow-cast using the traditional lost-wax technique and features a carefully formed ushnisha, softly modelled facial features and finely worked hair.
Microscopic examination revealed a naturally developed, multilayered patina with scattered remnants of original fire gilding. The surviving gold lies beneath and between historic oxidation layers, particularly within recessed and relief areas.
UV examination showed no fluorescent areas associated with modern coatings, lacquer or recent intervention. An opening at the neck is historic and has aged together with the surrounding surface. It appears to have served as an original attachment point within a composite statue or architectural setting rather than resulting from later damage.
