Product description

Antique console table in elm wood, from China and the Qing Dynasty. Originates from southern China, from the late 19th century, made by craftsmen skilled in traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery. This type of console served in the traditional Chinese home as a support surface near the entrance or main hallway, for setting down everyday objects. The solid elm top rests on four straight, slightly tapered legs, reinforced by a double horizontal stretcher visible at the front and back of the structure, with the joining tenons marked on the surface. The wood shows a homogeneous amber tone, with small losses along the edges of the top and the joinery marks typical of the original craftsmanship. In a contemporary living room or entryway, it acts as a support console, combining the sobriety of its proportions with the natural warmth of the wood.
