Product description
Antique console table in elm wood, from China and the Qing Dynasty. Originates from a rural home in southern China, from the late 19th century, built using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery.
This type of console was part of the everyday furniture of the Chinese farmhouse, used as a support surface near the entrance or interior courtyard.
The solid elm top is held up by four straight, sturdy-sectioned legs, joined by a double horizontal stretcher that runs across the structure from side to side.
The wood shows an aged, amber-toned patina, with small drying cracks in the top and use marks at the base of the legs.
In a contemporary rustic interior, it brings the genuine character of rural Chinese furniture as an entrance console or side table.
