Product description

Antique console table in elm wood, from China and the Qing Dynasty. Originates from southern China, from the late 19th century, made using the traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery typical of Chinese furniture of the period. Consoles of this compact format accompanied secondary corners of the traditional Chinese home, serving as a support for oil lamps or small ritual objects. The compact solid elm top rests on four straight legs joined by a double horizontal stretcher that reinforces the structure without adding visual weight to the piece. The wood retains a warm, even tone, with occasional use marks and a slight discolouration on the surface of the top typical of its age. In a narrow hallway or beside a bedroom entrance, its compact format makes it a versatile console for smaller spaces.
