Product description

Antique console table in elm wood, from China and the Qing Dynasty. Originates from southern China, from the early 19th century, where elm was worked using mortise-and-tenon joinery for domestic furniture. Pieces of this type were placed against the wall of the traditional Chinese home, as a support for ritual objects, vases, or the tea service. The single-plank elm top, of notable length, rests on four straight, square-section legs, joined by a double horizontal stretcher running along the front and back of the structure. The wood shows a uniform golden tone and longitudinal drying cracks in the top, the natural result of nearly two centuries of domestic use. In a contemporary entryway or hallway, it works as an entrance console, bringing geometric sobriety and the warmth of aged wood.
