Product description
Antique bench in elm wood, from China. An everyday bench from rural China, dating to the late Qing dynasty.
Benches like this one stood in courtyards, kitchens and markets, serving as shared seating for several people.
The seat, made from a single elm plank, rests on two pairs of splayed A-shaped legs joined by tenoned stretchers.
Compact in proportion, it shows deep grain and a chestnut tone with small cavities in the seat.
In an entrance or hallway, it adds a sober seat with clean lines that takes up little visual space.
