Mortar dimensions: H 11.5 × W 15 cm Pestle dimensions: H 20 × W 3.7 cm Total weight: 3 kg A particularly heavy antique bronze mortar with a matching pestle, crafted in a traditional Dutch model dating back to the 17th century. The mortar has a strong architectural silhouette with a widely flared top rim, multiple profiled horizontal bands, and two solid knob-shaped handles. Its substantial weight of approximately 3 kg and thick-walled construction lend the piece an impressive quality. Both the mortar and the pestle are cast from a copper alloy and show clear signs of prolonged use. **Historical Patina and Signs of Use** The surface has a warm golden-brown to dark-brown patina with localized natural oxidation. Dark and greenish copper oxidations are visible on the inside, along with wear caused by prolonged use of the pestle. The rim, handles, and exterior also show numerous small scratches, discolorations, and signs of use. These have been preserved as part of the object's historical character. **Traditional Dutch Model** The combination of the flared mouth, profiled bands, wide foot, and two opposing knob-shaped handles is consistent with European bronze mortars from the early modern period. The long pestle has a characteristic profiled baluster model with thickened ends. Based on its form, construction, and patina, we cautiously date the ensemble to the 17th/18th century. Without a maker's mark, date, or documented provenance, a more precise dating or attribution to a specific foundry is not justifiable. **Decorative and Historical Object** Due to its size, heavy bronze, and warm patina, this is not only an interesting historical utensil but also a powerful object for a classic, industrial, or eclectic interior.
