Product description
Antique dou grain measure in elm wood, from China. A cereal measuring box from the early 20th century.
The dou (斗) was the capacity measure used to weigh out and share grain in markets and granaries.
The pale wooden sides are joined with comb joints, and an iron strip with vertical tabs and brackets at the base reinforces the box.
The wood keeps a light honey tone with soft grain, lightly stained, and the iron has a brown patina.
On a low table, a shelf or in a kitchen, it serves as a container for fruit, kindling or plants.
