Antique crystal uranium wine glass Amsterdam, dating from 1883. A beautiful crystal wine glass in perfect condition with uranium incorporated into the bowl. It is engraved with "Exhibition Amsterdam 1883" and the name H. v.d. Stolpe. It was presumably purchased and engraved on-site at the International Colonial and Export Trade Exhibition, which was opened by King William III. Millions of visitors came to Amsterdam during this gigantic world exhibition. At the time, it was very popular to buy a luxurious souvenir on the spot or to have one personalized. Glass engravers were often present at the exhibition, engraving the names of buyers or gift recipients into the glassware live as a demonstration of their craft.
