About this seller
ProfessionalProduct description
Antique console table in elm wood, from China and the Qing Dynasty. Originates from northern China, from the late 19th century, where elm was worked using mortise-and-tenon joinery with through-tenons visible on the edge of the top.
This type of console table was placed against a wall in the traditional Chinese home, serving to hold ritual objects or everyday items.
The rectangular top, a single piece of solid elm, rests on four straight legs joined by a double horizontal stretcher set at different heights, reinforcing the structure without carving.
The wood shows a warm, honey-toned patina, with surface marks from use and small drying cracks typical of aged solid wood.
In a contemporary or japandi entryway or hallway, it works as a console table, bringing a serene presence and the natural warmth of aged elm.
