ProfessionalProduct description
Antique console table in elm wood, from China and the Qing Dynasty. Originates from northern China, from the mid-19th century, where elm was worked using the mortise-and-tenon joinery typical of classical Chinese furniture.
This type of console table was placed against a wall in the traditional Chinese home, used to hold ritual objects or everyday items.
The rectangular top rests on four straight, square-section legs, joined by a humpback stretcher that rises slightly toward the centre, following the classical construction of this type of table.
The wood shows a dark, even patina, with marks of use spread across the surface and small drying cracks typical of aged solid elm.
In an entryway or against a wall in a contemporary living room, it works as a console table, bringing the sober, elegant silhouette of classical Chinese furniture.
