Antique console in elm wood, traditional Chinese furniture originating from northern China and dated circa 1920. Originates from northern China, from the early 20th century, where local elm was worked using mortise-and-tenon joinery without nails, with solid tops and exposed square-section legs.
In the houses of northern China, small consoles held a discreet place in the main room or in the antechamber. They served as a support surface, a small storage piece with one or two drawers and an everyday auxiliary piece.
Built in solid pine using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery, without nails. The front presents two small parallel drawers with circular iron latch-style pulls. The sides and lower part are resolved with perimeter stretchers reinforcing the structure. The piece rests on four exposed square-section legs.
The patina retains the warm tone of aged pine, with grain and knots visible, joinery on view and a matte sheen. The top and drawers show marks, stains and traces of prolonged domestic use, integrated into the wood.
It fits naturally in minimalist, japandi or contemporary rustic interiors. It works as an entrance console, a side table in a bedroom or an auxiliary piece in a living room. Its contained scale lets it coexist with current furniture without imposing itself.
