This antique Chinese brick mould is a pine wood mould for shaping clay bricks. It originates from China, from the Qing dynasty, within the tools of traditional building. These moulds gave the brick a uniform shape and size before it was sun-dried or fired. They were filled with clay, levelled and turned out on the drying ground. The body is a pine frame with a central divider forming two compartments, so it moulded two bricks at once. The corners are jointed and reinforced. The wood is worn by the clay and use, with a warm tone and traces of earth in the joints. The surface reads authentic, with no restoration to mask it. Today it serves as a decorative tray, candle holder or table centre. It fits wabi-sabi, rustic and minimalist interiors, where it brings warmth and material presence.
