This antique Chinese brick mould is a pine wood mould for shaping clay bricks. It originates from China, from the Qing dynasty, within the tools of traditional building. These moulds gave the brick a uniform shape and size before it was sun-dried or fired. They were filled with clay, levelled and turned out on the drying ground. The body is a single-compartment pine frame, reinforced with iron straps at the edges and corners. The wear of the top edge reveals its continued use. The wood is worn by the clay and use, with a warm tone and traces of earth in the joints. The surface reads authentic, with no restoration to mask it. Today it serves as a decorative tray, candle holder or table centre. It fits wabi-sabi, rustic and minimalist interiors, where it brings warmth and material presence.
