Product description
This antique Chinese pine sideboard with two moulded-panel doors and central ring pull, is a domestic piece from northern China around 1930. Originates from northern China, from the late Qing or early Republican period, where pine was the most used wood for domestic storage furniture. Two-door sideboards were the most common storage pieces in homes of northern China during the Qing Dynasty and Republican period. Their horizontal format and storage capacity made them essential in dining rooms and bedrooms. The carcass is of solid pine with mortise-and-tenon joinery. The two doors carry a curved-section moulded panel, with a central ring pull on each. The corners are reinforced with vertical moulding. The structure rests on short feet integrated into the base. The pine has developed a warm patina in toasted and golden tones, with the grain visible across the surface. The wear is even and consistent with prolonged domestic use. This sideboard suits japandi, wabi-sabi or rustic contemporary interiors. It works as a dining-room sideboard, bedroom chest or auxiliary storage piece.
