Product description
This antique Chinese console table with drawers in solid wood, with two drawers with ring pulls and legs with bottle-neck bases, is a domestic side piece from northern China around 1900. Originates from northern China, from the late Qing period, where local wood was worked using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery. Consoles with drawers were common in Chinese domestic spaces of the Qing period, used as writing tables, light sideboards or hall tables. The detail of legs terminating in a rounded bottle-neck base is characteristic of northern Chinese carpentry. The top is formed by assembled planks with a subtle perimeter moulding. The two drawers slide on wooden guides and carry brass ring pulls. The straight legs end in a rounded widening typical of the region. The wood shows a warm natural patina, with deeper darkening on the tabletop and drawer fronts. The wear is even and consistent with the age of the piece. This console suits japandi, wabi-sabi or minimalist interiors. It works as a hall table, light sideboard or writing desk.
