Product description
This piece is an authentic 19th-century stagecoach lantern, designed to be powered by candlelight. Its functional design and robust construction bear witness to its historical use on carriages and cabriolets, providing essential lighting before the era of electricity.
The lantern is made from several metals, with a main body of black painted metal, a reflector and bezel in brass, and a copper ventilation cap. A glass lens at the front maximizes the candlelight, while a smaller red glass lens at the back serves as a signal. The lantern is mounted on a support rod, also painted black.
The general condition of the lantern is consistent with its great age, presenting a pronounced patina that gives it undeniable character and authenticity. The original materials, particularly brass and copper, have developed a rich coloration over time, telling the story of its past journeys.
As a Decorative Object, this carriage lantern brings a touch of history and rustic charm to an interior. It can be showcased in a bookcase, on a console, or in a classic or industrial style space, serving as a unique conversation piece.
