The Cabaret Fledermaus Chair, designed by Josef Hoffmann, is a defining piece of early twentieth-century seating. Its distinctive silhouette and architectural approach to form make it a highly desirable example of the transition towards modernism.
Constructed from bentwood, the chair features a continuous curved backrest that transitions seamlessly into the armrests, supported by vertical slats. The wooden frame is finished in a warm brown tone, highlighting the natural grain of the material. The seat is upholstered with an original Backhausen fabric, designed by Josef Hoffmann. The chair's design incorporates spherical wooden details at the joints, a signature element of Hoffmann's work during this period.
The chair was probably produced by J&J Kohn, but the label is no longer present. The wooden frame has charming patina that speaks to its antique status. One of the legs is slightly tilted, and the upholstery shows some wear. The price is set accordingly.
