Antique Burmese Mandalay Buddha Statue – Gilded Wood with Inlaid Eyes This large antique Burmese Mandalay Buddha statue is an impressive wooden devotional image from Myanmar, dating from approximately 1880–1920. The Buddha sits in the classic bhumisparsha mudra, the earth-touching gesture that symbolizes enlightenment, steadfastness, and spiritual victory. The statue is carved from wood and finished with warm gilding over a traditional red lacquer layer. The natural wear to the gold and the visible red underlayer give the statue a powerful antique character and a distinct temple-like appearance. A special detail are the inlaid eyes, which give the face extra depth and vivacity.
