Antique Burmese Mandalay Buddha Statue – Gilded Wood with Glass Decoration This antique Burmese Mandalay Buddha statue is a richly decorated wooden sculpture from Myanmar, dating from approximately 1880–1920. The Buddha sits in the classic bhumisparsha mudra, the earth-touching gesture that refers to enlightenment, inner strength, and the overcoming of negative influences. The statue is carved from wood and finished with a warm, gold-colored gilding. The robe, sleeves, base, and back are richly adorned with inlaid glass pieces and refined decorative patterns. This gives the statue a vibrant, spiritual appearance that is immediately recognizable as the Burmese Mandalay style. The natural wear on the gilding, the darkened areas in the deeper recesses, and the aged appearance of the decoration give the statue an authentic antique character.
