Antique Burmese Jambupati Buddha – Royal Mandalay Style (c. 1890) This rare and authentic Jambupati Buddha statue from Burma (Myanmar) is a masterpiece of the Mandalay period. The Buddha is depicted in royal attire, symbolizing spiritual sovereignty over the universe. The statue displays the Bhumisparsha Mudra (touching the earth as witness), the crucial moment of enlightenment. The object is crafted using the traditional Hman-zi-shwe-cha technique: a hand-carved wooden core, treated with red lacquer (bole) and finished with a rich layer of authentic gold leaf. The detailed decorations and glass inlays are characteristic of the refined 19th-century Burmese court style. Unique feature: The eyes of this statue are inlaid with authentic organic material (ivory) for the whites of the eyes and black thayo lacquer for the pupils.
