Product description
An impressive antique bronze statue depicting Lakshmi, also known as Sri Devi, the Hindu goddess associated with prosperity, abundance, and fertility. Attributed to South India or Sri Lanka and dating from the 17th century, the goddess is shown standing gracefully on a square pedestal, holding a lotus that symbolises purity and spiritual growth. The figure features an elegant, gently curved stance with refined modelling of the body, jewellery, and clothing. Her high coiffure with spiral details is characteristic of the classical South Indian bronze tradition. The traditionally cast bronze has developed a deep natural patina with green and brown oxidation, measuring 46.5 centimetres in height and 13.5 centimetres in width. The sculpture remains in good condition, displaying wear to the base and underside consistent with its age and possible ritual or temple use. No modern finish or alterations are present, preserving its historical integrity. With its tall, slender proportions and serene expression, this historic sculpture has a strong yet harmonious presence. It serves as an exceptional piece for collectors of Hindu art, Asian antiquities, and early bronze sculpture, complementing both traditional and eclectic interiors.
