Low Japanese tansu storage chest made during the Taishō period, early 20th century. Originally designed for everyday domestic use, this piece combines functionality, visual lightness and a restrained aesthetic.
The cabinet features a well-balanced arrangement of drawers in varying sizes, ideal for storing clothing, textiles or personal items. It is primarily crafted from paulownia, valued in Japan for its light weight and dimensional stability, reinforced with Japanese cedar in structural elements.
The original metal hardware, simple and functional, enhances the character of the piece. The surface displays a warm, natural patina with signs of age consistent with its period, adding depth and authenticity.
