The elongated snout, high ears, geometrically outlined eyes, and the central projection above the forehead give the depiction a distinct horse-like character. The form is deliberately abstract and composed of powerful planes and sharp volumes. Bamana, Mali The mask is attributed to the Bamana culture of Mali. Zoomorphic representations play an important role within various Bamana mask traditions, but no documented traditional mask name is known for this specific example. Therefore, we carefully catalog the object as a Bamana zoomorphic mask with an equine form, without adding an unproven ritual name.
