A stunning example of late Qing Dynasty (19th Century) craftsmanship. This hand-carved wooden tea caddy (historically used as a protective carrier for a teapot) features an intricate, openwork handle depicting two Phoenix birds, symbolizing harmony and grace.
The front is adorned with a prominent, hand-carved Dragon head spout, a powerful symbol of good fortune. The octagonal body is finished in a rich, traditional cinnabar-colored lacquer with delicate polychrome and gilded accents that have developed a beautiful natural patina over time.
This piece is a perfect statement centerpiece for a sideboard or a unique addition to an Asian-inspired interior.
