Product description
This is an antique lithographic stone, an authentic artifact from the history of printing technology. The object displays a detailed scientific depiction of various mollusks, including snails and shells, making it a fascinating testament to 19th or early 20th-century natural history illustration. The heavy block consists of solid stone, its smoothly polished surface contrasting with the fine, black ink drawing. The sides of the stone are left raw and unworked, emphasizing its original, functional character and creating a tactile, rustic texture. The illustrations are precisely executed and numbered, as was common for scientific plates. The object's condition is good considering its age and previous use, showing an authentic patina. Originally a tool for lithographic printing, this stone has been repurposed into a unique Decorative Object. Felt glides are attached to the underside to protect surfaces from scratches. As a striking unique piece, this lithographic stone is excellent as a paperweight on a desk, as a sculpture on a shelf, or as a central element in a cabinet of curiosities. It seamlessly integrates into classic, industrial, or eclectic interior styles, adding a historical and intellectual touch to any room.
