This remarkable brass lantern is reminiscent of the craftsmanship of the first half of the 20th century. Its design combines classic railway and ship signal lights with industrial Art Deco forms: an oval body with cross-divided glass windows and a heavily patinated, homogeneous golden-brown surface.
The upper, chimney-like part of the lantern features elegantly slender, circumferential perforations, which originally served to ventilate the flame – thus, the piece is based on authentic oil lamp bases.
The solid, curved handle and flat base ensure absolute stability, while the oval, convex glass shades refract the light like thick, warm-toned lenses. The lantern was later expertly converted to electricity and can therefore be used both as decoration and as an atmospheric light source.
The lantern lends a historical flair to any room: it is a particularly spectacular, unique eye-catcher in loft, industrial, vintage, steampunk, Mediterranean, or maritime interiors.
