This is an antique English jug from the Victorian period, manufactured around 1860. The piece features a factory mark on the base confirming the registration of the design in Cobridge, Staffordshire, a renowned center of English pottery. The design, known as the 'Ivy' pattern, is a characteristic example of the naturalistic aesthetic popular in the mid-19th century.
The jug is made of cream-colored ceramic, probably earthenware, and features a detailed relief decoration of ivy leaves, grape clusters, and a lattice pattern. The jug is finished with a hinged metal lid, presumably pewter, which has an ornate thumb rest. The combination of the textured ceramic and the smooth, dark metal creates an attractive visual contrast.
The overall condition of the jug is consistent with its considerable age of over 150 years. The piece has retained an authentic character and patina, which contributes to its historical charm. The original lid is still present and functional.
As a decorative object, this Victorian jug adds a touch of historical elegance to a classic, rustic, or eclectic interior. It can be beautifully displayed on a dresser, in a display cabinet, or as a standalone accent piece.
