Private sellerProduct description
Antique mahogany drop-front secretaire (secretaire à abattant), made in the Louis Philippe or late Biedermeier style.
Presumably dates from the period 1840 – 1870.
The cabinet is veneered with high-quality flame mahogany (also known as pyramid mahogany). This is clearly visible in the symmetrical, flamed wood grain on the drop-front and the lower doors.
Interior: Behind the writing flap is a beautiful and detailed interior (the 'nest') with various small drawers, open compartments, and a central door. This interior is decorated with fine geometric inlay (marquetry/intarsia) and turned wooden columns.
The brass fittings, including the key plates, complement the warm tone of the mahogany veneer.
The furniture is in good condition consistent with its age, with a developed patina that contributes to its authentic character. The construction is solid, and the original details, such as the veneer and inlay, are well preserved, testifying to the craftsmanship of the period in which it was made.
When unfolded, the depth is 100cm
