Private sellerProduct description
This is an antique pulley chandelier, likely of European origin, defined by its striking turquoise opaline glass and ornate metal frame. The design is a classic example of late 19th or early 20th-century lighting, combining the form of a traditional oil lamp with the functionality of an electric fixture, complete with a rise-and-fall mechanism.
The chandelier is constructed with a combination of materials that speak to its era. The primary shade, central fount cover, and candle sleeves are all crafted from a vibrant, ribbed turquoise opaline glass. This is mounted on an elaborate frame of what appears to be brass or bronze, featuring detailed scrollwork and decorative elements. The fixture includes a central light source under the main shade and four surrounding arms, each topped with a candle-style light. The pulley system with its counterweight allows the height of the lamp to be adjusted.
Overall, the piece presents in good antique condition, retaining the character and integrity of its original design. The metalwork displays a deep, age-appropriate patina that enhances its historical appeal, while the opaline glass components appear to be well-preserved. This fixture has been converted or was originally made for electricity, moving beyond its oil lamp aesthetic origins.
As a significant ceiling fixture, this chandelier is well-suited for a dining room, entryway, or living space with high ceilings. Its unique color and Art Nouveau-inspired details would make it a focal point in interiors that blend classic, eclectic, or bohemian styles, adding a touch of historical elegance.
