Product description
This is an antique, helmet-shaped coal scuttle, made of copper with brass details. The object combines functionality with a rich decorative appearance, characteristic of traditional European fireplace accessories. Its distinctive shape and combination of materials make it a piece full of character.
The body of the scuttle is made of red copper, which provides a warm glow. It stands on a stable, round brass base. The scuttle features two handles: a large, movable bail handle and a smaller handle at the back. Both handles are decorated with ceramic grips, hand-painted with blue motifs in the style of Delft blue. Brass lion heads adorn the attachment points of the large handle. The dimensions are approximately 28 cm in height and 29 cm in width.
The object is in good, antique condition, consistent with its age and former use. The copper and brass have developed an authentic patina, which contributes to its historical character. The ceramic handles are intact, and the overall construction is solid.
Although originally intended for storing coal, this scuttle is nowadays a versatile decorative object. It can be placed next to a fireplace for a classic ambiance, or given an alternative function as a unique magazine basket or a striking planter in a rustic or eclectic interior.
