About this seller
ProfessionalProduct description
A ceramic decorative object in the shape of a figure. The object has an orange glazed top with a detailed face and floral motifs. The underside is unglazed and has small feet. Light signs of wear and small chips are visible on the edges and feet.
A beautiful antique French terracotta cake and pâté mold in the shape of a swaddled baby. The inside is finished with a warm honey-colored glaze and shows a finely detailed relief of a baby's face with floral decoration over the blanket. The outside is unglazed, revealing the natural terracotta with an attractive aged patina.
Originally made as a pâté mold, this piece is now also commonly known as a cake mold or baking mold. Whether displayed as decorative French kitchenware or added to a collection of antique culinary forms, it is an exceptional and unusual example.
The mold is in good antique condition with normal signs of age and use. There are some minor glaze damages and slight edge wear around the rim, consistent with its age. No visible cracks or repairs have been found.
A charming and very decorative piece of French culinary history.
