Beautiful, well-functioning antique French Comtoise clock, approx. 1860-1870
This Comtoise clock not only displays the time in hours and minutes, but also shows the day of the month.
The clock is equipped with an enameled dial, a richly decorated brass fronton, and a lyre pendulum with cast iron weights.
The fronton (the frame above and around the dial) is made of repoussé brass and depicts a rural life scene.
The clock is equipped with a lyre pendulum, which has a metal bell at the top for the striking mechanism.
The movement was produced (as with all Comtoise clocks) in the French Jura.
Clockmaker Simon Blanchard & Zonen in Landiras (in the region near Bordeaux) assembled the clock, with the enamel dial and casing of this clock produced in the vicinity of Landiras.
The clock comes from a clock collector and is fully functional.
