Unique Antique Travel Trunk (approx. 1920) - Koninklijke Hollandsche Lloyd & Brazil Customs Seals
Are you looking for an authentic piece of furniture with a real story? This beautiful, antique wooden cabin trunk / travel chest is a tangible historical document of a transatlantic journey between Amsterdam and Brazil in the early 20th century (presumably 1920s).
Unlike the many 'anonymous' blanket chests on the market, the unique travel history of this piece can be fully traced thanks to the original, historical details on the chest:
Original Ship Labels: On the side, clear remnants of the historical shipping company Koninklijke Hollandsche Lloyd (KHL) from Amsterdam are still present, including the stopover label "HAMPTON" (Southampton, where ships docked at the time en route to South America).
Rare Brazilian Wax Seals: On the front are two original, weathered customs wax seals with the Portuguese text"Guarda Moria - Alfandega do Estado - Bahia". This proves that the chest was actually inspected and sealed by customs in the port of Salvador da Bahia (Brazil).
Condition of the chest:
Exterior: Wonderfully lived-in and weathered patina. The iron fittings and corners are robustly rusted (marked by the passage of time and salty sea air). The labels and seals are fragile but beautifully authentic. The chest has deliberately not been restored to preserve its historical value.
Interior: Exceptionally clean, dry, and fresh. Ideal for immediate storage of items.
