For sale: Antique Lantaka (Southeast Asian Swivel Gun) – 18th / early 19th century
Beautiful maritime collector's item with an estimated age from the 18th to early 19th century. This is a miniature version (historically used as a medium of exchange/currency) of a Lantaka (rentaka), a type of swivel gun that was intensively used in the Indonesian Archipelago for defense against piracy.
The cannon is cast from a solid copper alloy (brass/bronze) and features the characteristic, traditional geometric decorations on the barrel. The object is mounted on a robust, rustic wooden block and is immediately suitable as wall decoration. Special detail: authentic gunpowder residues are still visible around the touchhole.
