Product description
This elegant Art Deco fruit bowl is part of the Lady series, produced by Ankerglas Bernsdorf in 1932. Crafted in amber glass, it features a striking honeycomb-like pattern on the bowl, which enhances its geometric aesthetic. The tall, fluted pedestal base adds refinement and stability, making it a perfect blend of functionality and design. A stunning example of 1930s pressed glass craftsmanship, ideal for collectors and vintage glass enthusiasts.
On the bottom of the bowl, you can see the "BELGE" marking, which has two possible explanations.
The first is that it was a tax reduction strategy used by several German glass factories for products exported to Belgium.
The second possibility is that during the 1930s, the Belgian glass factory Scailmont produced glassware under license from German manufacturers. Items made under this arrangement were sometimes marked with "BELGE" or "Fait en Belgique," indicating their place of production or assembly.
Ankerglas Bernsdorf was a German glassworks established in Bernsdorf in 1872, originally known as Glasfabrik Gebrüder Hoffmann. The company was active until 1987, producing a variety of glassware, including Art Deco pieces. Their designs often featured vibrant colors and geometric patterns, characteristic of the Art Deco movement.
Collectors appreciate Ankerglas Bernsdorf for its historical significance and distinctive aesthetic. Some bubbles and small imperfections are normal in items made of pressed glass.
