It's hard not to be captivated by this miniature scene hidden within the heart of this ceramic carafe. In an alcove carved into its body, a small hand-painted lamplighter holds his pole and lantern, frozen in that daily gesture that punctuated the evenings of cities in the past century. A poetic tableau that forms the entire charm of this object. The ovoid body is covered with a deep, very shiny mahogany brown glaze, enhanced with horizontal gold bands imitating the hoops of a barrel. The gilded scroll handle and the original stopper in the shape of a ribbed grape cluster complete the piece with a whimsy very characteristic of 1950s decorative productions. Height approximately 27 cm including the stopper. The carafe houses a wind-up musical mechanism, a testament to that era when everyday objects also knew how to surprise and entertain. The mechanism is present and functional, but a service is recommended to restore perfectly smooth operation. The ceramic is in very good condition, glazes bright and intact, figurine without chips, original stopper present. An original collector's item, both decorative and endearing, which will naturally find its place in a cabinet of curiosities, a library, or a collection of automata and antique mechanisms.
