No pedestal needed. The Angel sits on a rough rock, and her wing, like a shell and protective shield, merges with her robes into the solid rock of Mother Earth.
Polished stoneware patinated in gold and bronze
Chantalle Smeets has developed a style entirely her own, timeless, which is visible in her sculptures of bronze, stone, ceramics, and wood. Her source of inspiration is nature. Her art radiates joie de vivre, strength, and beauty, possessing a distinct and unique character. The stillness of her sculptures can offer a moment of introspection and peace, a touch of something greater beyond thought. This is also what nature can offer us, and the necessity of our connection with nature. She wishes to share this through her art. Together with her partner and artist Martiene Stevens, they manage Kunsthuis Trobar.
