This work presents a collection of works by the French artist André Masson, a major figure of surrealism. It is a 1974 Japanese edition, titled « Gravures 1924-1972 », which brings together a selection of original engravings and lithographs covering nearly fifty years of his career. The book is presented in an elegant red fabric slipcase.
Published by Bijutsu Shuppan-sha, this volume is a limited edition, numbered to 450 copies. It contains original lithographs printed by the famous Mourlot workshop in Paris, as well as engravings made by the intaglio printers Crommelynck. The book itself is protected by an illustrated dust jacket and contains text in Japanese.
The set is in a general condition consistent with its age. The book and its lithographs retain their original character, testifying to Masson's artistic heritage and the quality of printing of the era. The fabric slipcase has protected the book over the decades.
This catalog is a collector's item for lovers of modern Art and bibliophiles. It offers an in-depth perspective on the evolution of Masson's style, from his early automatic explorations to his later works, and would find its place in a specialized Art library or a collection dedicated to surrealism.
