Product description
This is a distinctive wooden plant stand from the Amsterdam School period, a notable Dutch design movement of the early 20th century. The piece is defined by its expressive and sculptural form, which prioritises craftsmanship and artistic expression over pure functionalism, making it a characteristic example of its style.
The stand is constructed from solid wood, likely oak, and features a two-tiered design. It has a circular top surface and a smaller, round lower shelf, both connected by three elegantly curved, parabolic legs that create a sense of upward movement. The warm brown finish highlights the natural grain of the wood, adding depth and texture to its architectural silhouette.
This piece has acquired a characterful patina that reflects its considerable age and history. It stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of the Amsterdam School's unique aesthetic, which blended elements of Art Deco with a distinctly Dutch sensibility. The construction remains true to its original form.
As a functional and decorative object, this plant stand is well-suited for a variety of interior settings. It can serve as an accent piece in a living room, hallway, or study, providing an elevated display for a plant, a vase of flowers, or a small sculpture. Its historical design language complements both classic and eclectic decor.
