Amitabha Buddha's hands are held in Dhyana mudra, a meditation position. Fingers barely touching, they are gently folded over the knees, palms facing upwards. This hand gesture promotes meditative energy, deep contemplation and unity with a higher energy. The meditating Buddha, also known as Dhyana Mudra or Samadhi Mudra, is an emblematic representation of the Buddha in a contemplative, meditative posture. As tradition dictates, the Buddha of meditation is represented here in a seated position, with both legs crossed in a half-lotus position. Hands placed in Dhyana Mudra, the right hand rests on the left, thumbs gently touching, forming a subtle triangle or circle. The Buddha's back is straight and his gaze is downcast, signifying deep concentration and inner reflection. In his hands, he holds an alms bowl, demonstrating the Buddha's charity and generosity. The body is covered by a Sanghati robe worn diagonally over the left shoulder and adorned with a heavily pleated flap draped down to the navel. The right shoulder is left bare. This image is of profound significance in the Buddhist tradition, conveying essential teachings and embodying the virtues of inner peace, mindfulness and spiritual reflection.
