Private sellerProduct description
This is a glass vase, designed by the Swedish designer Per Ström for Alsterfors Glasbruk. The piece is immediately recognizable by its iconic 'mushroom' silhouette, a characteristic design from the mid-20th century.
The vase is made of hand-blown cased glass, a technique where layers of glass are applied over each other. This example has a white interior and a purple exterior that transitions from a deep shade at the base to a lighter magenta at the rim. With a height of 30 cm, this is a substantial object. This type of glassware is representative of Swedish glass design from the 1960s and 70s, a period when Per Ström was artistic director at Alsterfors.
The object is in very good vintage condition, which testifies to careful use over the years. The artisanal character is visible in the shape and the finish of the base, which makes each piece unique. The cased glass technique gives the vase a special depth and a beautiful play of light.
This vase is a powerful statement in a Mid-Century Modern or Scandinavian interior. It functions excellently as a standalone sculptural object on a sideboard or in an open cabinet, but can also be used for a minimalist floral arrangement.
