Product description
Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Habitat 2000 Aio teapot Now very rare, not reissued. High-quality white porcelain crafted using traditional techniques. Brothers Ronan (b. Quimper, 1971) and Erwan (b. Quimper, 1976) Bouroullec are two French designers of Breton origin. Artistic background Their parents enrolled them at the Beaux-Arts in Quimper: "I began to take an interest in design at the age of 15", says Ronan[1]. After graduating from the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs, Ronan Bouroullec began working alone, before being joined in 1999 by his brother Erwan, a graduate of the École nationale supérieure d'arts de Cergy-Pontoise. The Bouroullec brothers are among the few French designers with an international reputation[2]. Their work lies somewhere between furniture and architecture[2]. Although never commercialized, the object that made them famous was the "Lit clos" in 2000, published by Galerie kreo[2]. Twelve copies were produced, and it is now exhibited in museums[3]. In 1997, Ronan was spotted by Cappellini, seduced by Cuisine Désintégrée, who offered him the opportunity to carry out his first industrial design project. It was thanks to this bed project and their "Disintegrated Kitchen" that Swiss design publisher Vitra became interested in their work[4]. Subsequently, they met Rolf Felhbaum, Vitra's president, and designed a new desk system for the publisher called "Joyn", inspired by the peasant table at their grandparents' farm in Finistère[1],[5]. Next for VItra comes the Alcove Sofa series, for desks[1]. They also collaborate with brands such as Artek, Alessi, Axor Hansgrohe, Cappellini, American Emeco, Established & Sons, Italian Flos, Hay, Kettal, Danish textile specialist Kvadrat (en), Kartell, Glas Italia, Ligne Roset, Magis, Iitala, Mattiazzi, Mutina, Nani marquina and Samsung. Designer Inga Sempé is Ronan Bouroullec's partner, and they have a daughter together[6].
