About this design.
The A.I. Cornelis Vases with Handle is an original graphic work from 1966, an Art object from the original printmaking category, originating from the Dutch National Collection. The work shows two amphora-like vases with handles in earth tones, grey-green and blue against a dark background, with the left vase decorated with classical figures. The composition and still-life subject are in line with Dutch post-war graphic art of the 1960s.
This A.I. Cornelis Vases with Handle is printed on paper using a mixed color printing technique with a tangibly layered, almost ceramic texture in the vase bodies. The work is framed behind glass in a plain wooden frame with a white passe-partout, making it immediately ready for display. On the back is the original collection label of the Dienst voor ‘s Rijks Verspreide Kunstvoorwerpen in The Hague — the then administrator of the National Collection and predecessor of the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands — stating the artist, title, and “Rotterdam 1966”.
