About this seller
Private sellerProduct description
This is a set of two hand-carved wooden busts, representative of the Makonde art tradition. The sculptures, depicting a man and a woman, are crafted from a dark, solid wood type and showcase the craftsmanship characteristic of the Makonde sculptors from East Africa.
Each sculpture is hand-carved from a single piece of wood, with a height of 38 centimeters. The artist has rendered the textures of the hair and headscarf with detailed carvings, creating a contrast with the smoothly polished faces. The deep, dark brown to black color of the wood gives the busts a powerful and serene appearance. The style is unmistakably figurative and rooted in tribal art.
The sculptures are in good, vintage condition, consistent with their age and history. The wood has developed a natural patina over the years, contributing to the authentic character of the set. The visible traces of time and use tell a story and enhance the historical value of the objects.
These Makonde sculptures are an expressive addition to any interior. They fit perfectly on a sideboard, in a bookcase, or as part of a collection of ethnic art, adding an element of worldly culture and history to a space.
