Afra & Tobia Scarpa — Piediferro table, B&B Italia
Vintage Piediferro table, designed in 1979 by Afra Bianchin and Tobia Scarpa for B&B Italia. An architectural design combining black marble, a metal central leg, and a distinctive cast iron base.
The square marble top features rich white and cream-colored veins. The rounded corners and subtly rounded edge of the top soften the strict geometry. Below, the ribbed base forms the characteristic detail: four triangular surfaces with parallel lines converge around the central leg. The relief gives the heavy cast iron an almost graphic character.
Piediferro emerged from the Scarpas' research into the application of cast iron in furniture. The separate metal column allowed the same basic design to be applied at different table heights.
This piece has a weathered surface, with local patina discoloration on the base. The marble top shows signs of wear, rings, and local damage and repair marks, including on one corner. These details are visible in the photos and are part of its current condition.
