About this seller
Private sellerProduct description
For sale is a matching set of eight original Thonet S 32 cantilever chairs designed by Marcel Breuer.
The eight chairs were jointly purchased new by our family in 1993 and have been continuously in our possession since then. The corresponding THONET embossing with the year '93' is present.
The chairs stood for many years as a complete ensemble at a Cassina LC6 dining table with a glass top and were used exclusively privately. In the past ten years or so, they have no longer been used and have been stored dry.
Version
black stained wooden frame
natural colored Vienna cane
chromed tubular steel frame
Original Thonet
Year of manufacture 1993
Condition
For their age, the chairs are in a well-maintained and authentic vintage condition.
The chromed tubular steel frames are generally very well preserved. The black stained wooden frames show age-appropriate patina as well as isolated scratches and signs of wear, partly due to use at the glass table. The photos deliberately show the condition in detail.
Seven of the eight seats have already been renewed and have an additional support fabric reinforcement under the Vienna cane.
For one chair, the renewal of the seat cane is still pending. We deliberately did not have this done before the sale. A professional renewal is easily possible at weaving shops specializing in Thonet and is currently offered for about 130 to 180 EUR, depending on the execution.
The Vienna cane shows natural differences in color and patina corresponding to its age.
